  The role is to enhance the scientific capabilities of CSIRO solar group in CST (Concentrated Solar Thermal) area and to support its commercialisation activities. This will include the modelling and experimental investigation of solar collector systems (such as heliostat field and receiver), optimisation of their efficiencies and investigation of novel approaches for the design of solar plants.

  The research project is mostly funded by ASTRI (Australian Solar Thermal Research Initiative), which advances the research on solar thermal technologies in Australia and aims at a substantial reduction of costs to harness solar energy

  More specifically you will:

  • Numerical modelling and optimisation of CST subsystems such as heliostat field optics and receiver geometry.

  • Numerical modelling and experimental investigation of hydrodynamics and heat transfer associated with solar receivers and heat exchangers.

  • Assist with the development of CSIRO’s proprietary CST software tools:

  o HelioControl (heliostat field control and calibration system),

  • Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.

  Location: Newcastle, NSW

  Tenure: Specified term of 3 years

  Salary: AU$83K – AU$94K + up to 15.4% superannuation

  Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all selection criteria can be appointed.

优博娱乐平台   • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as engineering, physics or computer science.

  o Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.

  • Experience with conjugate heat transfer systems involving radiation, convection and conduction

  • Familiarity with numerical methods and optimisation algorithms

  • Proficiency in scientific computer coding

  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including publishing in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, and presenting at national and/or international conferences.

  • A record of science innovation and creativity, including the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
