  A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated scientist to focus on the basic biology of force transmission in airway smooth muscle with disease relevance using a combination of genetically engineered mice, cell lines, and human samples. The group is working to develop novel therapeutic approaches to target excessive airway smooth muscle contraction in asthma using a combination of ex vivo contraction assays, in vivo assessments of airway hyperresponsiveness, and two-photon microscopy. A major focus of our group is to translate our findings into therapeutics using established multidisciplinary collaborations to develop and screen potent small molecule inhibitors of target proteins.   Career development opportunities include development of scientific presentation, writing skills, and presentation at national and international meetings. Requirements include:

  o    Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and fluency in English

  o    Highly proficient in a variety of basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques evident by peer-reviewed publications

  o    Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently develop, guide, and complete research projects

  o    Strong ability to troubleshoot experiments and solve problems

  o    Experience with mouse husbandry, cell culture, imaging, and flow cytometry preferred
